I absolutely adore maternity photographs. The big belly, glowing mom, freaked out dad.. it’s all just so beautiful! So naturally I couldn’t wait for my own maternity photo shoot . The week I found out I was pregnant I was already planning my maternity photos and getting ideas for what I wanted. I knew I wanted it to be more formal and no nude photos, did I mention the big belly?!
One of my closest friends from childhood is a very talented photographer so I started talking to her right away about doing my maternity photos. One suggestion she gave me was to do my maternity photos around 32-34 weeks. You have a big belly but all the swelling hasn’t kicked in yet.
The next thing to do was find the perfect dress. After hours of searching I finally found the perfect dress for my photos. Sew Trendy makes the most gorgeous AND comfortable maternity dresses. They are so soft and stretchy, perfect for a pregnant mama! They also offer their dresses in 35 different colors so you will always be able to find your favorite. I opted for the Krysten Gown in Navy and it was absolutely perfect!
We chose to do our maternity photos at the beach around sunset. If you have access to the beach I’d definitely recommend it. It makes for the most beautiful backdrop.
Fun fact: I had planned on getting my hair and makeup done for the photos but I went into preterm labor the week before (luckily the medications were able to stop my contractions) so I had to take it easy which meant me doing my own hair and makeup while laying in bed!
Did you do a maternity photoshoot when you were pregnant?
