Take a moment to think about how important confidence is. It affects almost every aspect of our daily life because it greatly influences the way we act and respond towards the world around us. So you get it, it’s kind of a big deal.
We all have days, weeks or possibly even months where our confidence is seriously lacking. So whether you are feeling on top of the world or like hiding under a rock, this post is for you.
This week we are discussing 6 simple ways to boost your confidence. Before we get started I just want to remind you that eating a healthy, balanced diet, exercising regularly and getting enough sleep will have a major impact on your confidence. But you already knew that, so let’s go!
I don’t care whether or not you feel like it, smile! We are talking about that whole fake it till you make it thing. A smile will help you relax and feel better all around. Seriously, a smile is a positive action and it will yield you positive results.
Two: Stop the Negative Self Talk.
Are you guilty of speaking to or about yourself in negative way? Take a day and really focus on listening to all the things that inner voice of yours is saying. Pay attention to the way you refer to yourself out loud. Write these things down! Every little thing you say about yourself, in conversation with others, in response to something you did, everything. At the end of the day look at the words that you have said. Are they kind, would you say such things about a loved one? I bet you will find that you are really unkind to yourself. You need to stop doing this right away and I know that it won’t be easy doing so because it’s a habit. So, read on.
Three: Start the Positive Self Talk.
Remember that list you made of all the things you said to yourself? I want you to take that list and for every negative statement made, write something positive in its place. This doesn’t mean you aren’t being realistic and you are claiming to be prefect, no one is! It means that you understand that your imperfections are not who you are! When those negative thoughts come into your mind or out of your mouth, stop! Replace them with a positive. Truly loving yourself will bring you an incredible amount of confidence
Four: List Things You Love about Yourself.
Ask those who love you what they appreciate about you! Refer to this list often! I guarantee reading this list will give a serious confidence boost.
Five: Stop comparing yourself, Period.
Seriously, are you still doing this? I’m sure you are because I know that I’m guilty of it from time to time. Don’t forget that no one is better than you. They simply aren’t and I can guarantee you posses strengths that they do not! Seeing yourself as less than others totally kills your confidence. Remember too though that you are not better than anyone else. We all have faults and strengths and we should all be confident in who we are.
Six: Do something for someone else.
Hey, this isn’t all about you! Over focusing on oneself is actually really counter productive. Take time to do something for someone else, regularly. Compliment a stranger, bring flowers to a friend, just do something for someone else. Doing for others is an instant feel good and feeling good equals confidence.
This isn’t something that works overnight. You have to train yourself to be confident if it isn’t something you are already strong at.
